5 Important Things to Keep in Mind Before Lifting Weights

Unlike what a lot of people mistakenly believe, lifting weights isn't just about heading to the gym to pump iron for as long and hard as you can. It's definitely a lot more than that and we'll tackle the whole thing in this post.

Now while weight lifting plays a key role when it comes to building the body that you've always wanted, there are key things to keep in mind before doing so. Apart from putting yourself at risk to injury, there's also a big chance that you won't achieve the results you're looking for if you disregard them.

Make sure you read on to find out what these are so you won't be encountering problems when you do start pumping iron...

Keep in mind that lifting weights is going to be very grueling.

A lot of people tend to think that weight lifting is a walk in the park. Well, I've been lifting weights for almost a decade now and I can tell you that it's going to be a very grueling experience.

And it's just going to get harder and harder as you go along.

This is because weight lifting is all about pushing your mind and body to the limit and you're simply going to be disappointed sooner or later if you don't make this the top item in your checklist.

Warm up properly before you start pumping iron.

Starting cold when you're lifting weights is one of the biggest mistakes that you'll ever make.

Besides having the possibility that you won't perform your pumps properly and not getting the results you're looking for in the long run, the intensity of your workout won't also be that powerful, which can mean the difference between realizing your bodybuilding goals and no significant results at all.

Make sure you do a bit of cardio for at least 10 to 15 minutes to get your circulation going. When you feel that your blood flow is much more intense and your muscles are already warmed up and ready for action, that's the time to start pumping iron.

Don't be pressured.

A lot of weight lifting newbies seem to have the mindset that they should match up against the performance of others when they have a go at the equipment at the gym.

Apart from making themselves rather vulnerable to injury like cramps, joint aches and possibly even fractures, chances are they're not going to be remotely productive while at it. Never do this mistake!

Sure you might feel fired up to see other people lifting weights much heavier than yours, but pumping iron is mostly about practice and experience. You'll eventually get there in due time. And you'll just look ridiculous when you force it.

No snacking in between routines.

No matter how tempted you are to take a bite of your favorite energy bar, giving in to it will only make you feel sluggish and lazy. And when that happens, do you think you'll be able to carry out your exercises properly?

Well, I think the answer is not that tricky to figure out. Save the munching afterwards. You'll feel more satisfied when you do this, too.

Keep in mind that it's only going to get harder.

I know I've already emphasized this earlier, but weight lifting doesn't get easier for you as you go along. It's just going to get tougher, more intense and more challenging in the process.

This is because you'll need to amp up your workout to really achieve the gains that you're looking to get. And you're definitely not going to realize them by just sticking with the same stuff over and over.
